MONTHLY MEETING - February 4, 2010
Merlene Walker Brings PMC® Jewelry Excitement to Johnson County Art Guild.

Merlene will be presenting Precious Metal Clay fired in Microwave kiln at 110 N. Caddo Street
in Cleburne on Thursday, February 4th, 2010 at 7:00 PM.  Precious Metal Clay® (PMC), a
versatile, easy-to-use material that allows just about anyone to make their own beautiful, real
silver jewelry in a matter of hours.

PMC is a pliable, putty-like compound containing actual silver powder. It can be molded,
textured and layered using simple modeling tools to make pendants, earrings and other types
of jewelry—even small sculptures. A product of Mitsubishi Materials Corporation of Japan, PMC
looks and feels like children’s modeling clay, though in fact there is no ceramic content in it at
all. Instead, a non-toxic binder and water are mixed in careful proportion with tiny particles of
pure silver. The resulting material can be handled just like clay—rolled, stretched, formed and
assembled into intricate designs. Once the design is completed and the piece has dried, it can
then be safely fired in a small, compact kiln, microwave kiln or with a torch. The resulting piece
is identical to the object that was crafted, but now of 100% pure silver.

Since its introduction to the U.S. in late 1995, PMC has found enthusiastic users among
jewelers, polymer clay artists, beadmakers, hobbyists and enamelists.   Merlene Walker has
been teaching PMC for over 10 years.  She was certified by Tim McCreight of Rio Rewards in
2000.  Presently she is Resident Artist at Wired Up Beads in Southlake, teaching both PMC
and Bronze and Copper Clay.

it is truly an art form.  These methods may be used  to produce original art in other mediums.

Members remember to bring a painting for the Mini Show, and visitors are welcome at all of
our art demonstrations.

Fine Artist, Mahto Hogue
Award winning Fine Artist Mahto Hogue was born and raised in Texas but has always
admired the colors and ambiance of the Southwest, especially Native Americans and their
home style and customs.
He has been interested and involved in art since an early age.  Instead of wanting toys
for gifts, he asked for an easel and art supplies.
He is a self taught artist, studying color, composition and anatomy.  He is inspired by the
Old Masters and the Modern Masters, (Norman Rockwell, Andrew Wyeth and Daniel Greene).
He visited the Four Corners Area in the late 1980 ' s and fell in love with the area.  He
retired and returned there for a year, to pursue his art career full time.  He has now returned
to Texas , as his home base.
Medias include acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoals and pen and ink.  He favors the oils
because he achieves the perfection of the colors he desires, to accomplish the reality of the
subject, which shows in all of his art works. He uses many personal items in his paintings:
jewelry, chevron, glass beads, beaded medicine bags, leather pouches, toys, clothing, etc.
He has done numerous commissions of people, pets and vehicles, and when not doing
commissions, he concentrates on what he enjoys most, and that is the Native Americans and
their home styles.  His work shows his dedication, discipline and execution of Fine Art.
Currently, he is a member of Mid Cities Fine Art, Trinity Art Guild and Pastel Society of the
Southwest.
Mahto is offering drawing/painting classes on Wednesdays, in Hurst , TX .  Please call or
email for more information.
